Changing habits! As a Munro & Corbett bagger, I've been heading for the Scottish hills for 70 years. A few of our habits have changed in that time!

Since 1976 when we started our excursions, the intervening years, (approaching 50), have seen some significant changes in our behavioural routines.

We always used to stand at the Bar.

Now we always sit!

We used to decide where we were going whilst we were travelling North, and, usually, before we passed Carlisle. Now we pre-book at least three weeks in advance.

We used to drink up to 8 pints. Now its up to 3.

We used to include a Rum & Black and a Dram or so. Now its a Coffee.

We used to stay out till thrown out. Now its to bed before Closing.

We never used to eat until we had finished drinking. Now we drink little before we eat.

We used to know the name of every Mountain we had done. Now we often say “What was that called”.

But we still live up to our Motto:- “Make the most of every available opportunity!"

How times change! Think this blog could be longer- love to your hear views on how kit has changed and accessibility like bridges, motorways... and ability to call home?!! 🤭

Thanks. Most kit is the same. My rucksack is ancient. I am still a map and compass guy. Waterproofs are better. Now print maps on internet instead of buying. Miss the ferry's but glenelg still going plus Calmac of course. More traffic on motorways than used to be on roads. Just sorting a podcast for U Tube.

Great reflections on changing habits!! Recognise some of that. Awesome that you're still enjoying Scotland heading towards 90 though!! 😎

Hi, I've got lots of stories about Munros and I'm in the definitive Munro's Tables book as Munroist 604!

I'm Neville Wiseman and I completed the Munros in 1988. That wasn't enough, so I completed the Corbett's in 2000.

I'm aged 86 years old and one of the Oldest Munroists in the country to still be re-bagging Munros and Grahams. I'm probably the Oldest Munro Blogger too!! I'm continually adding to my two websites, www.scottishmunros.com and www.normalneville.com, with stories, maps, routes and tips for Munro Baggers... and aspiring Munro Baggers!

I've written a book called 'Diary of a Munroist- Come By the Hills' which you can access free of charge.

I also continue to publish various Blogs, Podcasts and ruminations around the topic, including things I keep finding on my computer but had forgotten that I'd written!

If you enjoy this site please give my articles a 'like' and a comment... and I will keep posting!
